Europe - Hamburg, Germany - July 12, 2009
Yesterday was our last full day in Hamburg, and it was busy! We started out by going to the Stand Up Paddling World Cup! - which was actually far duller than it may sound. Or maybe you're smarter than we were and you realize already that watching men stand on boogie boards and paddle from one end of a river to the other is not terribly exciting. Because this race? It was slow. And long. This wasn't the Kentucky Derby. It was, however, slightly better than a turtle race. Observe:
Now, observe Christiane's and Antonia's looks of disdain. Totally unimpressed:
But oh, well. It was an experience nonetheless. But look how great this poster makes it look! Doesn't it look kind of exciting? Okay, maybe not.
Afterward we headed to Kaffeestadt, the best coffee place in the world, and the coolest:
It's filled with coffee grains and old-timey coffee machines and the like. It was really neat. It also had the best coffee of my life, a Dominican Republic blend - we bought a bag of it to take home, and Marc promised me he'd send me more when I run out. Antonia liked the place, too:
After we had our coffee-created energy going, my mom and I went to Spittel Strasse to get a present for Corey. There was a special store we were looking for, but of course we got lost and couldn't find it anywhere. We did, however, stumble upon the most fantastic vintage store:
We never did find a present for Corey... we found the shop we were looking for 10 minutes after it had closed for the night. C'est la vie, 'cause we're off to Paris now! Maybe the perfect present will be there.

No, that poster does make the event look more exciting than it really is. But that's because the guy is paddling around in the tropical sunset, and it looks like your guys were just splashing in the inner-city canal.
Oh,well, I told you to ask me;)!I'm making sure Corey gets the surprise from Germany, though!I'm seeing to that PERSONALLY!:)
Hey, just thought i'd drop you a quick note to say thanks for the comment :) Your blog is great... Would love to read about your paris trip
